CMLL "Fantastica Mania" PPV Review (January 25th, 2024)

Mexico City's Arena Mexico played host to CMLL's latest Pay Per View extravaganza, "Fantastica Mania", and yours truly was fortunate enough to be in attendance. The stacked card featured a mix of thrilling matches, surprise upsets, and even some unexpected title implications.

Match 1: Capitan Suicida & Halcon Suriano Jr. vs. Diamond & Oro Jr. (Best Two Out Of Three Falls Tag Team Match)

The evening kicked off with a bang as the high-flying Capitan Suicida and Halcon Suriano Jr. paired up to take on the experienced Diamond and Oro Jr. in a fast-paced, hard-hitting tag team contest. The match saw both teams trading holds and near-falls before the winners ultimately secured the victory in 10:13.

Match 2: El Triangulo (El Hijo del Villano III & Villano III Jr.) vs. Guerrero Maya Jr. & Hombre Bala Jr. (Best Two Out Of Three Falls Tag Team Match)

The tag team action continued as El Triangulo, comprising the veteran El Hijo del Villano III and his protégé Villano III Jr., faced off against the younger duo of Guerrero Maya Jr. and Hombre Bala Jr. The match featured plenty of technical grappling and aerial attacks before El Triangulo emerged victorious in 12:14.

Match 3: Zandokan Jr. vs. Akuma (Lightning Match)

In a much-needed injection of adrenaline, the lightning-fast Zandokan Jr. took on the aggressive Akuma in an action-packed Lightning Match. The match was over before you could blink, with Zandokan Jr. securing the win in just 8:59.

Battle Royal

The battle royal segment saw six competitors – Draego, Furia Roja, Max Star, Neon, Valiente Jr., and Vaquero Jr. – enter the ring for a chaotic free-for-all. In the end, it was Futuro and Guerrero de la Muerte who emerged victorious, much to the delight of the Arena Mexico crowd.

Gran Alternativa 2024 Matches

The evening's main event segment centered around CMLL's Gran Alternativa tournament. The first round saw three matches take place: Furia Roja and Ultimo Guerrero defeating Valiente and Valiente Jr., Mascara Dorada and Neon besting Draego and El Barbaro Cavernario, and Atlantis Jr. and Futuro overcoming Averno and Guerrero de la Muerte.

The quarterfinals witnessed Max Star and Volador Jr. take down Furia Roja and Ultimo Guerrero in 8:05, while Mascara Dorada and Neon edged out Atlantis Jr. and Futuro in 5:23. The semi-final match saw Mascara Dorada and Neon prove too strong for Max Star and Volador Jr., securing the win in 10:05.

Gran Alternativa 2024 Semifinals

In the end, it was Mascara Dorada and Neon who stood tall as they defeated their opponents in the semi-finals, setting up a highly anticipated final match. With their victory, they cemented themselves as top contenders for the coveted Gran Alternativa title.

All in all, "Fantastica Mania" delivered an unforgettable night of high-octane lucha libre action, with some surprise winners and title implications that will keep fans on the edge of their seats until the next CMLL event. Zoha's Verdict: 8/10
