NJPW STRONG: A Show for the Ages

The City of Brotherly Love played host to New Japan Pro Wrestling's latest Pay Per View extravaganza, and boy did it deliver. The 2300 Arena was electric on a warm August evening as the best of the best from NJPW and beyond gathered to put on a show that will be remembered for some time.

Let's start with the opener, a Scramble Match featuring an all-star cast of eight competitors. Chris Sabin emerged victorious in a match that had more twists and turns than a Philadelphia street corner. It was a frenetic pace, with bodies flying everywhere, but in the end, it was Sabin who managed to outmaneuver everyone else.

The first real test of the night came in the form of a tag team match pitting Eddie Edwards and Moose against TMDK (Shane Haste and Zack Sabre Jr.). This one had all the makings of a classic: power vs. technicality, experience vs. youth. In the end, it was the veteran duo that came out on top, with Moose's raw strength proving too much for even the likes of Sabre.

Now we get to the women's division, and oh boy, Giulia put on a show in her quest to retain the NJPW STRONG Women's Title. A four-way match featuring Deonna Purrazzo, Gisele Shaw, and Momo Kohgo was always going to be tough, but Giulia's technical prowess and sheer determination saw her outlast the competition.

Sami Callihan and DOUKI went toe-to-toe in a South Philly Street Fight that had everything: brawling, submission holds, and even some good old-fashioned chair shots. In the end, it was Callihan's ruthless efficiency that earned him the win.

Catch 22 (Francesco Akira and TJP) continued their impressive tag team run with a victory over TMDK's Kosei Fujita and Robbie Eagles. These two teams are going to be forces to be reckoned with for some time.

The main event of the evening was a barnburner, as BULLET CLUB (Ace Austin, Alex Coughlin, Chris Bey, Clark Connors, David Finlay, and KENTA) clashed with Guerrillas Of Destiny, Josh Alexander, PCO, and The DKC in a 12-man tag team match. This one had all the makings of a classic: power vs. technicality, experience vs. youth. In the end, it was BULLET CLUB's sheer numbers advantage that proved too much for their opponents.

The penultimate match of the evening saw Lio Rush and Trey Miguel take on Hiromu Takahashi and Mike Bailey in a tag team match that had everything: high-flying action, technical grappling, and even some good old-fashioned brawling. In the end, it was Rush's quickness and agility that proved too much for their opponents.

And finally, we got to the main event of the evening: Alex Shelley challenging Hiroshi Tanahashi for the Impact World Title. This one had all the makings of a classic: experience vs. youth, technicality vs. power. In the end, it was Shelley's sheer determination and willpower that earned him the victory.

All in all, this was a show that will be remembered for some time. NJPW STRONG has set the bar high for their next Pay Per View event. If you missed it, do yourself a favor and go back and watch it. Trust me, you won't regret it.
