NJPW STRONG: KINGDOM TAKEOVER
San Jose Civic, San Jose, California - January 12th, 2024 (Attendance: 2147)
In a night that will be remembered for a long time, New Japan Pro Wrestling's STRONG division put on a show for the ages. The packed house at the San Jose Civic was electric as eight matches took place, featuring some of the best talent from around the world.
The action kicked off with a high-flying opener, as Mascara Dorada and Volador Jr. teamed up to take down Rocky Romero and Soberano Jr. in a thrilling tag team match. The luchadores' aerial attacks left the crowd gasping for breath, but it was the Mexican duo that emerged victorious.
Next up, Fred Rosser, Jacob Fatu, and Shota Umino proved why they're one of the top teams in NJPW by defeating Team Filthy (Jorel Nelson, Royce Isaacs, and Tom Lawlor) in a hard-hitting six-man tag team match. The veteran trio's power and precision were too much for their opponents to handle.
The undercard was highlighted by a pair of excellent matches featuring David Finlay and TJP, as well as Guerrillas Of Destiny (El Phantasmo and Hikuleo) and BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Alex Coughlin and Clark Connors). Finlay's technical grappling skills were on full display in his win over TJP, while GOD's championship mettle was put to the test against BCWD. In the end, it was GOD who emerged victorious, retaining their NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Titles.
Giulia made history by becoming the new NJPW STRONG Women's Champion, defeating Trish Adora in a highly competitive match. The Italian powerhouse showcased her impressive array of moves, including a devastating package piledriver that sealed the deal.
The Chosen Bros (Jeff Cobb and Matt Riddle) proved why they're one of the top teams in the world by taking down TMDK's Bad Dude Tito and Zack Sabre Jr. in a fast-paced and physical tag team match.
In the main event, Eddie Kingston put his NJPW STRONG Openweight Title on the line against Gabe Kidd. The two competitors went at it tooth and nail, but ultimately ended up in a double count-out, with neither man able to emerge victorious.
The night's final match saw Jon Moxley face off against Shingo Takagi in a No Disqualification Match. These two rivals have a long history of intense battles, and this one was no exception. Moxley's vicious strikes and Takagi's thunderous attacks left both men reeling, but it was Moxley who emerged victorious after a brutal flurry of moves.
The evening closed out with Kazuchika Okada facing off against Will Ospreay in a highly anticipated singles match. The two competitors traded holds and submissions, with neither man giving an inch. In the end, it was Okada's sheer strength and determination that allowed him to secure the win, much to the delight of the San Jose crowd.
Overall, this was a night that will be remembered for years to come in the world of professional wrestling. NJPW STRONG has proven once again why it is one of the premier promotions in the industry.
