New Japan Pro Wrestling Delivers Thrilling Card in Nagaoka

The Aore Nagaoka played host to a star-studded evening of professional wrestling as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) brought its brand of high-flying action and hard-hitting drama to the city. The sold-out crowd of 2821 was treated to a stacked card featuring some of the best in the business, with several key matchups in the G1 Climax 2017 tournament.

The night kicked off with a pair of tag team matches, as Suzuki-gun's El Desperado and Zack Sabre Jr. paired up to take on Ren Narita and Shota Umino. The underdogs showed flashes of brilliance, but ultimately fell short against the more experienced duo, who claimed victory in 6:11.

Next up was a bout featuring Ryusuke Taguchi and Togi Makabe, who teamed up to face Hirai Kawato and Yuji Nagata. This one was a bit more competitive, with both teams trading holds and near-falls before Taguchi and Makabe emerged victorious in 6:51.

The first six-man tag team match of the night saw BULLET CLUB's Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, and Yujiro Takahashi take on Katsuya Kitamura, Kota Ibushi, and Tomoyuki Oka. The Babyfaces put up a good fight, but ultimately fell prey to the cunning and strength of the Heels, who wrapped things up in 7:14.

The first half of the card concluded with Los Ingobernables de Japon's BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito facing off against CHAOS's Gedo and Tomohiro Ishii. This one was a technical showcase, with all four competitors showcasing their skills before Naito and BUSHI emerged victorious in 6:22.

The first half of the card ended with another bout featuring CHAOS, this time Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI taking on David Finlay and Hiroshi Tanahashi. This one was a bit more rough-and-tumble, with both teams trading blows before Goto and YOSHI-HASHI claimed victory in 7:18.

The second half of the card got underway with two G1 Climax 2017 tournament matches. First up, Tama Tonga took on Juice Robinson in Block B action. The crowd was firmly behind Robinson, but Tonga's power and experience ultimately proved too much for him, as he claimed victory in 10:36.

Next up, SANADA faced off against Toru Yano in another Block B bout. This one was a quick and brutal affair, with SANADA emerging victorious in just 4:33.

The main event of the first half saw EVIL take on Minoru Suzuki in what was easily the most intense and physical matchup of the night so far. Both competitors left everything in the ring, but ultimately it was EVIL who emerged victorious in 8:38.

The second half of the card concluded with Kazuchika Okada facing off against Satoshi Kojima in another Block B match. This one was a hard-hitting affair, with both competitors trading blows and near-falls before Okada finally claimed victory in 15:26.

Finally, the main event of the night saw Michael Elgin take on Kenny Omega in what was easily the most anticipated matchup of the evening. The crowd was firmly behind Omega, but Elgin's power and determination ultimately proved too much for him, as he claimed a stunning upset victory in 24:39.

All in all, it was a fantastic card from NJPW, with several key matchups and a great mix of styles and personalities on display. Zohash.com gives this one four out of five stars.
