Sapporo Showstopper: NJPW Delivers Thrills and Spills at Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center
In a night that will be remembered for its sheer brutality and technical mastery, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) brought the house down at the Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center in Sapporo, Japan. A sold-out crowd of 1920 enthusiasts bore witness to six matches that showcased the best of what NJPW has to offer.
The evening's opening act saw Yota Tsuji emerge victorious over Yuya Uemura in a singles match that lasted a mere 8:13 minutes. While not exactly a barnburner, Tsuji's victory served as a gentle warm-up for the main event.
Things picked up significantly with Hirooki Goto and SANADA locking horns in a G1 Climax 2020 Block B match. The bout was a masterclass in technical grappling, with both competitors trading holds and near-falls. In the end, it was Goto who emerged victorious, submitting SANADA in 11:03 minutes.
The next contest pitted Toru Yano against Hiroshi Tanahashi in another Block B showdown. This one was a wild card, with both men giving it their all in a match that saw more action than a WWE pay-per-view main event. In the end, it was Yano who took home the win, submitting Tanahashi in just 7:15 minutes.
Juice Robinson and KENTA then faced off in what promised to be a hard-hitting encounter. And boy, did they deliver. The two competitors tore into each other like wolves on the hunt, leaving the crowd gasping at every turn. In the end, it was Robinson who emerged victorious, submitting KENTA after 17:01 minutes of brutal action.
The penultimate match saw EVIL take on YOSHI-HASHI in another Block B bout. This one was a slow-burning fire that eventually built into a raging inferno. The two competitors traded near-falls and submission holds before EVIL finally secured the win with his Everything is Evil maneuver, taking home the victory after 17:21 minutes.
The main event of the evening saw Tetsuya Naito face off against Zack Sabre Jr. in what promised to be a technical masterpiece. And indeed it was. The two competitors locked horns in a match that was equal parts grappling and striking, with each man giving it his all. In the end, it was Naito who emerged victorious, submitting Sabre Jr. after 28:28 minutes of back-and-forth action.
In conclusion, NJPW's Sapporo show was an absolute must-see for any wrestling fan worth their salt. The action was non-stop, the drama was palpable, and the performances were top-notch. If you missed it, do yourself a favor and track down the replay – your taste buds will thank you.
