NJPW's G1 Climax 2023 Finale Delivers Thrills and Spills

Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan - August 12th, 2023

The New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) faithful gathered in force tonight at the iconic Ryogoku Kokugikan, as the promotion's biggest stars clashed in a series of thrilling matches. The main event, of course, was the culmination of the G1 Climax 2023 tournament - and what a show it turned out to be!

The evening kicked off with a pair of tag team bouts, featuring some of NJPW's top talent. In the opener, Kaito Kiyomiya and Ryohei Oiwa successfully defended their tag titles against Oskar Leube and Toru Yano, showcasing their excellent chemistry and timing. The match clocked in at 7:47.

Next up, Master Wato, Shota Umino, Tomoaki Honma, and Yuji Nagata combined to take down Strong Style (Yuto Nakashima) and the trio of TenKoji (Tiger Mask), Togi Makabe, and... well, let's just say they made quick work of those challengers. This eight-man tag match lasted 8:41.

The CHAOS faction - comprised of Eddie Kingston, Hiroshi Tanahashi, TenKoji, and the aforementioned trio - then squared off against BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, and Yota Tsuji in an equally entertaining eight-man tag. This one concluded at 9:37.

As the night wore on, we saw four more matches featuring a mix of established duos and newer teams. TMDK (Kosei Fujita, Mikey Nicholls, Shane Haste, and Zack Sabre Jr.) emerged victorious against Bishamon, Oleg Boltin, and Ryusuke Taguchi in an eight-man tag (10:05). Next, Guerrillas Of Destiny (El Phantasmo, Hikuleo, Jado, Tama Tonga, and Tanga Loa) triumphed over BULLET CLUB (Alex Coughlin, Chase Owens, David Finlay, Gabe Kidd, and KENTA) in a thrilling ten-man tag match that clocked in at 11:03.

Finally, we had two more eight-man tags featuring some of NJPW's most popular stables. House Of Torture (Dick Togo, EVIL, SHO, and Yujiro Takahashi) bested Just 5 Guys (DOUKI, SANADA, Taichi, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru), while Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, and Yota Tsuji) outlasted United Empire (Great-Oh-Khan, HENARE, Jeff Cobb, and Will Ospreay) in matches that both lasted around 10 minutes.

And then, of course, came the main event: the G1 Climax 2023 Final Match between Tetsuya Naito and Kazuchika Okada. This grueling contest saw both men give it their all, but in the end, Naito's superior strategy and technical prowess proved too much for the Rainmaker. The match concluded at an impressive 34:18.

As the dust settled on this incredible card, one thing was clear: NJPW has truly outdone themselves with this year's G1 Climax. Tonight's show will be remembered for a long time to come - and we can't wait to see what the future holds for these talented grapplers!
