The Main Eventers Shine at NJPW's Suita Showstopper
Yamato Arena, Suita, Osaka, Japan - August 2nd, 2024
Last night in Suita, New Japan Pro Wrestling put on a show for the ages. The packed Yamato Arena witnessed a thrilling card that featured some of the best matches and performances from the top stars in the promotion.
The evening got off to a hot start with an eight-man tag team match featuring Konosuke Takeshita and United Empire (Francesco Akira, HENARE, and Jeff Cobb) taking on Hirooki Goto, Katsuya Murashima, Shoma Kato, and Tomoaki Honma. The United Empire squad impressed, showcasing their strength and coordination in a well-executed match that saw them emerge victorious.
The following bout pitted Oleg Boltin and Toru Yano against the BULLET CLUB War Dogs (David Finlay and Gedo). This tag team contest was all about technical grappling, with both teams trading holds and near-falls. In the end, Boltin and Yano's synergy proved to be the deciding factor.
The first half of the card concluded with a pair of tag team matches that saw Just 5 Guys (TAKA Michinoku and Yuya Uemura) defeat Guerrillas Of Destiny (El Phantasmo and Jado), and Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI and Yota Tsuji) take down House Of Torture (Ren Narita and Yoshinobu Kanemaru). Both matches featured impressive teamwork, with each duo showcasing their unique strengths.
As the main eventers took center stage, the energy in the arena reached a fever pitch. Jake Lee kicked things off by defeating Callum Newman in a G1 Climax 2024 Block A Match. The young Lee proved his mettle once again, displaying the quickness and agility that has made him a fan favorite.
Next up was Great-O- Khan, who faced off against EVIL in another Block A showdown. This grueling contest featured both men trading blows and near-falls, with Great-O-Khan ultimately emerging victorious after a thrilling sequence of moves.
The main event quarterfinal match saw Tetsuya Naito square off against Gabe Kidd. As expected from the master of the Glorious (and a little bit terrible), Naito put on a show for the ages, using his quickness and cunning to outmaneuver Kidd and secure the win.
Sanada was up next, taking on Shota Umino in another Block A battle. This match featured some incredible aerial displays from both competitors, with Sanada ultimately prevailing after a daring sequence of moves.
The final two matches of the evening saw Shingo Takagi face off against Zack Sabre Jr. and Jake Lee take on Great-O-Khan. The former bout was an intense display of strength and technical grappling, with Takagi's power proving too much for Sabre Jr. to handle. In the latter match, Lee put up a valiant effort but ultimately came up short against the dominant Great-O-Khan.
As the dust settled, it was clear that this card would be remembered as one of the best in recent New Japan Pro Wrestling history. The main eventers truly shone, and the crowd went home happy with a full night's worth of top-notch wrestling.
