In front of a packed Korakuen Hall crowd in Tokyo, Japan, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented an action-packed TV show on June 22nd, featuring the first round matches of the coveted New Japan Cup 2020. The event was broadcast live to fans around the world.

The evening kicked off with an eight-man tag team match, pitting Suzuki-gun against a quartet of young lions from NJPW's developmental ranks. DOUKI, El Desperado, Minoru Suzuki, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru proved too much for Gabriel Kidd, Yota Tsuji, Yuji Nagata, and Yuya Uemura, securing the win in 10 minutes and 33 seconds.

The evening's main event saw Kota Ibushi face off against Zack Sabre Jr. in an evenly matched contest. In the end, Ibushi's superior strength proved too much for Sabre Jr., as he secured the win via a bridging German suplex in 15 minutes and 15 seconds.

The night's final match pitted Taichi against Hiroshi Tanahashi, with both competitors giving it their all. However, Taichi ultimately emerged victorious, submitting Tanahashi to the "Sleeping Tiger" armbar in an exhausting 21 minutes and 51 seconds.
