SYDNEY SHOWDOWN: NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING DELIVERS AN EVENING OF HIGH-FLYING ACTION AT SELINA'S ENTERTAINMENT CENTER!
May 16th, 2024 - Sydney, New South Wales, Australia - The Selina's Entertainment Center played host to a thrilling night of professional wrestling as New Japan Pro Wrestling brought its unique brand of excitement to the Australian city. A sold-out crowd was treated to an action-packed card that featured a mix of established stars and up-and-coming talent.
The evening began with Finn Grant emerging victorious in his singles match against Sean Tohi. The young prospect from the United States showcased his aerial abilities, connecting with a picture-perfect 450 Splash to secure the win. Next up was Big Fudge, who made quick work of Nikki Van Blair in their respective singles bout. Fudge's impressive power and technical prowess allowed him to dominate the match, culminating in a decisive pinfall victory.
The first tag team contest saw The VeloCities (Jude London and Paris De Silva) take on The Ungrateful 1s (TJ Illes and Trent Hooper). In an entertaining back-and-forth affair, Jude and Paris managed to outmaneuver their opponents, ultimately securing the win via a series of rapid-fire tags. Their second match against the same opponents saw similar results, with The VeloCities once again emerging victorious.
Johnny Gardener and Shep Alexander teamed up for a thrilling tag team outing against Ty Thayer and Xander Sullivan. The latter duo started strong, but Johnny and Shep's experience and chemistry proved too much to handle. They capitalized on their opponents' mistakes, securing the win with a well-executed double-team maneuver.
Aaron Jake continued his impressive streak by defeating Pedro Ramirez in a singles match. Jake's technical grappling skills were on full display as he outwrestled Ramirez, finishing him off with a slick submission hold. Next up was Mark Tui and Richard Mulu, who took down Billy Preston and David Streamer in their respective tag team match. The winners' strong chemistry and quick tags allowed them to stay one step ahead of their opponents.
In the penultimate contest, Ben Braxton faced off against Backman. This hard-hitting affair saw both men exchange heavy blows and near-falls. In the end, Ben's sheer power proved too much for Backman, who was forced to submit to a crushing bearhug.
The main event featured two of NJPW's most popular teams: The Natural Classics (Stevie Filip and Tome Filip) took on Andrew Villalobos and Jake Taylor in their respective tag team match. This highly competitive contest saw both teams trade holds and near-falls, with the eventual winners' strong teamwork and execution proving decisive.
The evening's main event pitted Bishamon (Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI) against Rogue Army (Bad Luck Fale and Caveman Ugg). The crowd was treated to a thrilling tag team match that saw both teams go toe-to-toe. In the end, it was Bishamon's experience and teamwork that allowed them to emerge victorious.
As the night drew to a close, New Japan Pro Wrestling left Sydney with a lasting impression on its fans. The Selina's Entertainment Center played host to an incredible evening of professional wrestling, showcasing the best of what NJPW has to offer. Until next time, Australian fans will be eagerly anticipating their return.
