Tokyo Dome Hosts Thrilling Wrestle Kingdom IV

The largest crowd of the year, a staggering 27,000 strong, packed into the iconic Tokyo Dome to witness the spectacle that is New Japan Pro Wrestling's (NJPW) annual flagship event: Wrestle Kingdom IV. This year's edition did not disappoint, with a card stacked from top to bottom with some of the world's finest grapplers.

The Undercard

AJ Styles, Christian Cage, and Petey Williams kicked things off in explosive fashion, taking down RISE (Milano Collection AT, Minoru, and Prince Devitt) in a high-flying Six-Man Tag Team Match. The trio of veterans showcased their signature moves, with Styles delivering a picture-perfect 450 Splash to seal the deal.

Next up, Wataru Inoue successfully defended his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title against Christopher Daniels, securing the win via submission (10:17). This contest was all about technical grappling, with both competitors showcasing their expertise in a thrilling encounter.

Manabu Nakanishi looked dominant in dispatching Abyss in a singles match that lasted just 6 minutes and 0 seconds. The big man from NJPW used his signature running powerslam to put away the monstrous Abyss, sending the crowd into raptures.

The Main Event Block

Katsushi Takemura, Masato Tanaka, Tatsuhito Takaiwa, and Yutaka Yoshie formed an unstoppable unit in their Eight-Man Tag Team Match against Koji Kanemoto, Ryusuke Taguchi, Takashi Iizuka, and Tiger Mask. This contest was a masterclass in teamwork, with the victors combining for a 3-minute flurry of moves to secure the win (8:36).

Team 3D (Brother Devon and Brother Ray) then faced off against Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe and Toru Yano) in a Hardcore Tag Team Match that had fans on the edge of their seats. The tag team specialists from NJPW used every trick in the book to overcome their opponents, eventually securing the pin at 13:12.

The Finals

Legend and Tatsumi Fujinami formed an unlikely alliance to take down Great Bash Heel (Gedo and Jado) and Voodoo Murders (Gedo and Jado) in a Ten-Man Tag Team Match. This contest was a wild ride, with all ten competitors involved in the action at some point. The victorious duo of Legend and Fujinami combined for the decisive blow, securing the win in 7:18.

In what would prove to be the match of the night, Great Muta faced off against Hirooki Goto in a singles contest that had fans mesmerized. Both men traded near-falls and showed incredible resilience, but it was Muta who emerged victorious at 13:04.

The main event block continued with Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko challenging The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner) for the IWGP Tag Team Titles. This hard-hitting contest saw both teams leave everything in the ring, but ultimately, the champions held on to retain their titles at 12:50.

The Championship Matches

In what would prove to be a thriller of an encounter, Kurt Angle successfully defended his IWGP Third Belt Title against Yuji Nagata, securing the win via submission (18:29). This match was all about technical grappling, with both competitors showcasing their skills in a contest that had fans on the edge of their seats.

The night's main event saw Shinsuke Nakamura challenge Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title. In a contest that had it all - drama, action, and even some humor - Nakamura emerged victorious at 17:01 to become the new champion.

And so, Wrestle Kingdom IV came to a close, leaving fans in attendance and those watching from home eager for next year's edition.
