Impact Wrestling: A Mixed Bag of Action and Drama

Newport, Kentucky - The MegaCorp Pavilion played host to an action-packed episode of Impact Wrestling on May 17th, 2024. While the card was dotted with some thrilling matches, it wasn't without its hiccups. As I've come to expect from Impact, the show delivered a healthy dose of excitement, drama, and intrigue.

Match 1: Chris Bey vs. Ace Austin - Singles Match

The night kicked off with a bang as Chris Bey looked to assert his dominance over Ace Austin. In what turned out to be a hard-hitting affair, Bey's quickness and agility proved too much for Austin's rugged style. A perfectly executed shooting star press sealed the deal, giving Bey the win.

Match 2: Xia Brookside vs. Steph De Lander - Singles Match

Xia Brookside continued her impressive run with a decisive victory over Steph De Lander. The former X-Division Champion showcased her technical prowess, navigating De Lander's aggressive offense with ease. A well-placed dropkick put an end to the proceedings.

Match 3: Jonathan Gresham vs. Sami Callihan - Singles Match

In what was arguably the match of the night, Jonathan Gresham pulled off a stunning upset against the formidable Sami Callihan. Gresham's cerebral approach allowed him to outmaneuver Callihan at every turn, culminating in a picture-perfect DDT that sent the crowd into raptures.

Match 4: Mike Santana vs. Steve Maclin - Singles Match (No Contest)

This bout was marred by controversy when an overly zealous referee inadvertently caused the match to be declared no contest. As both men were trading blows, the ref's errant interference led to a messy conclusion that left fans frustrated.

Match 5: Mustafa Ali vs. Leon Slater - Non-Title Match

Mustafa Ali flexed his muscles against Leon Slater, dominating the matchup with an impressive display of power and agility. A devastating 450 splash proved too much for Slater, securing Ali's victory.

Main Event: Joe Hendry vs. Eddie Edwards - Singles Match

In what was a hard-hitting encounter, Joe Hendry emerged victorious over Eddie Edwards. The former Tag Team Champion used his cunning to outwit Edwards' aggressive attacks, ultimately finishing him off with a vicious knee lift.

As I left the MegaCorp Pavilion, it was clear that this episode of Impact Wrestling had its highs and lows. While some matches were memorable and well-executed, others fell short due to outside factors (ahem, that referee). As we look ahead to the next broadcast date (May 29th), there's plenty to be excited about - including the continued rise of Chris Bey and Xia Brookside. Stay tuned, folks!
