September 25th, 2016 - Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

The WWE's latest Pay-Per-View extravaganza, "No Mercy", served up a mixed bag of excitement and disappointment in front of a raucous crowd at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. As I scribble away my notes, here are the highlights (and lowlights) from an event that left this wrestling writer feeling...well, perplexed.

Match 1: The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) vs. The Club (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) - WWE RAW Tag Team Title Match

What a fantastic opening bout! These four men tore the roof off with an electrifying tag team match that showcased the very best of what professional wrestling has to offer. Big E's power, Kofi's agility, Anderson's cunning, and Gallows' brute force all combined for a thrilling 6:45 ride. The New Day emerged victorious, retaining their tag titles in the process.

Match 2: TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick - WWE Cruiserweight Title Match

In a match that flew by in no time (just 10:31), TJ Perkins successfully defended his cruiserweight title against the plucky Brian Kendrick. This was an excellent example of how to execute a high-flying, fast-paced bout without sacrificing technical skill. Perkins' aerial attacks and Kendrick's scrappy resilience made for a compelling contest.

Match 3: Cesaro vs. Sheamus - Best Of Seven Series Match #7 (No Contest)

Oh, what could've been! The long-awaited seventh installment of this Best-of-Seven series was instead reduced to a glorified brawl when both men couldn't agree on the finish. Disappointing, considering the rich history between these two European strongmen.

Match 4: Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn - Singles Match

In a match that saw both competitors trading blows and showcasing their impressive ring generalship, Chris Jericho ultimately outmaneuvered Sami Zayn to secure the win. This was an outstanding bout with a perfect blend of technical grappling and high-impact strikes.

Match 5: Charlotte vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks - WWE RAW Women's Title Triple Threat Match

What can I say about this thrilling triple threat match? The women delivered, folks! Charlotte's cunning, Bayley's unbridled energy, and Sasha Banks' sheer athleticism created an unforgettable spectacle that left the crowd in awe. In the end, Charlotte retained her title with a crafty submission.

Match 6: Roman Reigns vs. Rusev - WWE United States Title Match

Reigns continued his recent hot streak by besting Rusev for the US title. This was an intense battle with both men trading blows and showcasing their power. The finish saw Reigns deliver a thunderous spear to secure victory.

Match 7: Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins - WWE Universal Title Match

The main event saw Kevin Owens dethrone Seth Rollins in a thrilling, hard-hitting contest that pushed both competitors to the limit. This was an outstanding match with an unpredictable finish, as KO capitalized on Rollins' momentary lapse to claim the title.

In conclusion, No Mercy offered a mixed bag of performances - some fantastic, others...not so much. As always, I'm left pondering what could've been (Cesaro vs. Sheamus, anyone?). Still, this event provided plenty of memorable moments and left me excited for what's to come in the world of professional wrestling.

Final Thoughts:

  • 4/5 matches earned a solid "Excellent" rating from yours truly.
  • The women stole the show with their triple threat match - an absolute must-see!
  • Cesaro vs. Sheamus...what could've been? Sigh.
  • Kevin Owens' title win was well-deserved and sets up intriguing future storylines.

Until next time, folks!
