WWE NXT UK Delivers Thrills and Spills at Empress Ballroom

January 12, 2020 - Blackpool, Lancashire, England

The WWE NXT UK crew brought the house down at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, delivering a card packed with action, drama, and more than a few surprises. The sold-out crowd was on the edge of their seats from start to finish as some of the UK's top talent put it all on the line.

The show opened with Eddie Dennis taking on Trent Seven in a singles match that saw both men giving it their all. Despite Seven's best efforts, Dennis proved too strong, securing the win after just 8 minutes and 20 seconds of action. A solid start to the night, but not without its flaws - more on that later.

Next up was the WWE NXT UK Women's Title Triple Threat Match, pitting Kay Lee Ray against Piper Niven and Toni Storm. This one had all the makings of a classic: three talented women with a history of delivering memorable performances. In the end, it was Kay Lee Ray who emerged victorious, pinning both her opponents in quick succession to retain the title. The match clocked in at 13 minutes and 10 seconds, making it one of the longer bouts of the evening.

The second half of the show got underway with Tyler Bate facing off against Jordan Devlin. This was a battle for the ages, folks - two men with a deep-seated dislike for each other trading holds and near-falls left and right. In the end, it was Bate who came out on top, submitting Devlin after 22 minutes and 22 seconds of non-stop action.

But the real main event of the evening was undoubtedly the WWE NXT UK Tag Team Title Fatal Four Way Ladder Match. Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) were looking to make a statement against Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson), Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel), and South Wales Subculture (Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews). The result was chaos - ladders flying, bodies crashing to the mat, and more than a few near-misses. In the end, Gallus emerged victorious, claiming the tag titles in a thrilling 25-minute contest.

Finally, the evening's main event saw WALTER putting his WWE NXT United Kingdom Title on the line against Joe Coffey. This was a battle for the ages - two of the UK's finest pitting their strength and cunning against each other. In the end, it was WALTER who retained his title, submitting Coffey after 27 minutes and 31 seconds of intense action.

Overall, this was a show that will be remembered for some time to come. While there were certainly some missteps along the way (Dennis' match, in particular, felt like it could have been tightened up), the overall quality of the card was top-notch. If you're a fan of professional wrestling, do yourself a favor and seek out this one - it's well worth your time.

Rating: 4.5/5

Recommendation: If you're new to WWE NXT UK, I'd recommend starting with some of the show's standout matches (Bate vs. Devlin, Gallus vs. the rest) before diving into the full card. For experienced fans, this is a must-see - trust me, you won't be disappointed.
