UNIONDALE, NEW YORK - AUGUST 25, 2002: THE CAGE RATTLES WITH WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT'S SUMMER SLAM PAY-PER-VIEW!
In front of a packed Nassau Coliseum crowd of 14,797, the WWF delivered a show for the ages at Summer Slam. The event, broadcast live on pay-per-view, featured eight matches that left fans on the edge of their seats.
The evening kicked off with Kurt Angle, fresh from his Olympic glory, taking on Rey Mysterio in a singles match. Angle's technical prowess proved too much for the high-flying Mysterio, as he secured the victory in 9:25 minutes.
Next up, the Nature Boy Ric Flair clashed with Chris Jericho in a battle of wits and brawn. The charismatic Flair outsmarted the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla, pinning him in 10:25 minutes to add another notch to his legendary career.
Edge continued his ascent up the WWF ranks by defeating Eddie Guerrero in an action-packed singles match. The Rated-R Superstar's agility and power proved too much for Guerrero, as he secured the win in a thrilling 11:44 minutes.
The first half of the card concluded with Christian and Lance Storm defending their WWF World Tag Team Titles against Booker T and Goldust. The challengers put up a valiant effort, but the reigning champions' experience and teamwork ultimately led to their victory in 9:40 minutes.
Following intermission, Rob Van Dam took on Chris Benoit for the WWE Intercontinental Title. In a hard-hitting match that showcased both competitors' technical skills, Van Dam emerged victorious, retaining his title in the process.
The Undertaker made quick work of Test in a singles match, dispatching him with his trademark Tombstone Piledriver in 8:10 minutes. This win further cemented Taker's status as one of the most dominant forces in the WWF.
In the penultimate match, Shawn Michaels and Triple H clashed in an unsanctioned battle that went the distance. The Heartbreak Kid's incredible athleticism and cunning ultimately proved too much for the Game, as he secured the win after a grueling 27:50 minutes of action.
Finally, Brock Lesnar challenged The Rock for the WWE Championship in the main event. In a match that had the entire arena on its feet, Lesnar's sheer power and aggression allowed him to overcome the Great One, capturing the title in a shocking upset.
As the night drew to a close, fans left the Nassau Coliseum buzzing about an unforgettable Summer Slam. The WWF has set the bar high for their next major event, and we can't wait to see what's in store.
