WWE SummerSlam Report
East Rutherford, New Jersey's Izod Center played host to the 19th annual SummerSlam pay-per-view event on August 26, 2007. The sold-out crowd of 17,441 witnessed eight matches that showcased the best of WWE's talent pool.
The night kicked off with a dominant performance by Kane, who dispatched Finlay in an impressive 8:50 singles match. The Big Red Machine's power and aggression proved too much for the Celtic Warrior to handle.
In the first title defense of the evening, Umaga successfully retained his Intercontinental Championship against Carlito and Mr. Kennedy in a thrilling triple threat match. The Samoan Bulldozer capitalized on the distraction caused by Carlito's miscommunication with Kennedy, securing the pin and maintaining his reign.
The undercard saw Rey Mysterio earn a hard-fought victory over Chavo Guerrero in a 12:20 singles match. The Master of the 619's quickness and aerial attacks allowed him to overcome Guerrero's cunning and technical grappling skills.
The WWE Women's Division took center stage with a #1 Contendership Battle Royal, featuring 11 competitors vying for a shot at the Women's Championship. Beth Phoenix emerged victorious in an exhausting 7:10 match, eliminating opponents with her patented "Glam Slam" finisher.
On the ECW front, John Morrison successfully defended his Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk in a competitive 7:21 match. The Miz's mentor used his cunning and agility to evade Punk's attacks, securing the win and extending his title reign.
Triple H continued his winning ways with a convincing victory over King Booker in a 7:55 singles match. The Game's power and technical prowess proved too much for the Jamaican royalty to handle.
The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line next, as Batista faced off against The Great Khali. The Animal's strength and agility allowed him to overcome the giant's brute force, capturing the title in a 7:00 match.
The main event saw John Cena face Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. In a thrilling 21:18 match, Cena's determination and athleticism allowed him to outlast Orton's cunning and aggression. The Cenation leader's fifth WWE Championship reign was secured with a decisive victory over the Viper.
