Today, August 17th, 2008, was a night to remember at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, as World Wrestling Entertainment brought its A-game with SummerSlam, one of the most anticipated pay-per-view events of the year.
The sold-out crowd of 15,977 enthusiastic fans were treated to a thrilling evening of action-packed matches, with some surprises and upsets along the way. Let's get to it!
Match #1: Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Jeff Hardy (Singles Match) The night kicked off with MVP taking on Jeff Hardy in a high-flying match that saw both men showcasing their aerial prowess. In the end, it was MVP who emerged victorious, pinning Hardy after a thunderous drive-through (10:10).
Match #2: Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella vs. Kofi Kingston and Mickie James (WWE Intercontinental Title Winners Take All Intergender Tag Team Match) In a thrilling tag team bout, the unlikely duo of Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella took on Kofi Kingston and Mickie James in a battle for bragging rights. The action-packed match saw Phoenix and Marella emerge victorious, solidifying their claim to being the best (0:00).
Match #3: Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry (ECW Heavyweight Title Match) In what was expected to be a squash match, Matt Hardy shocked the world by defeating ECW Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry in mere seconds! A quick roll-up sealed the deal for the underdog Hardy (0:33).
Match #4: CM Punk vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (World Heavyweight Title Match) The main event of the evening saw CM Punk challenging JBL for the World Heavyweight Championship. In a match that had it all, including near-falls and drama, Punk managed to pin JBL after a vicious GTS (10:29).
Match #5: Triple H vs. The Great Khali (WWE Title Match) In a battle of strength and cunning, WWE Champion Triple H faced off against the behemoth-like Great Khali. Match #6: Batista vs. John Cena (Singles Match) The final match of the evening saw two of WWE's biggest stars, Batista and John Cena, going head-to-head in an epic clash. The action was back-and-forth, but ultimately it was Batista who came out on top with a decisive slam (14:10).
And finally, the main event of the night - Hell In A Cell Match - saw The Undertaker take on Edge in a brutal battle that tested the limits of both men. In what can only be described as a war, Taker emerged victorious after a vicious Chokeslam from the top rope (26:43).
