WWF Survivor Series 2009 Recap
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the sheer awesomeness that was WWF Survivor Series 2009. Last night's PPV event at Washington D.C.'s Verizon Center was a wild ride from start to finish, with some of the most memorable moments in recent wrestling history.
Let's start with the opening bout: the 10-Man Tag Team Elimination Match featuring a mix of established stars and up-and-comers. In what can only be described as a chaotic mess, Dolph Ziggler & Co. emerged victorious over Evan Bourne's team. While this match was more about setting the tone than anything else, it was a solid opener that got the crowd going.
The first elimination came in the second match of the night: Batista vs. Rey Mysterio. This one was all about big man power vs. high-flying offense, and in the end, Batista's sheer strength proved too much for Rey. The timekeeper's clock stopped at 6:50, a brisk pace that allowed both men to showcase their skills.
Now we come to the main event of the evening: Christian & Co.'s 10-Man Tag Team Elimination Match against CM Punk's crew. This one was all about storytelling, with each team working together seamlessly like well-oiled machines. In the end, it was Christian who delivered the decisive blow, eliminating Ted DiBiase and securing the win for his team at 20:50.
But the real showstopper of the night came in the form of The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho & Big Show. This World Heavyweight Title Triple Threat Match was a masterclass in pacing and drama, with each competitor getting their chance to shine. In the end, it was Taker who stood tall, delivering a devastating Tombstone Piledriver to secure the win at 13:40.
The women's division got some love too, as Eve Torres & Co.'s Survivor Series match against Alicia Fox & Co. resulted in a thrilling elimination sequence. In the end, it was Mickie James who emerged victorious for her team, capping off an impressive outing at 10:40.
And then came the main event of the evening: John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels & Triple H. This WWE Title Triple Threat Match was all about big moments and high-stakes drama, with each competitor delivering their best work in a thrilling contest that saw Cena emerge victorious at 21:10.
All in all, WWF Survivor Series 2009 was an absolute barnburner from start to finish. With some of the best match-ups I've seen all year, this event is sure to be remembered for years to come. If you missed it, do yourself a favor and track down the replay – it's well worth your time.
