His natural aptitude for physical competition would eventually lead him to the world of professional wrestling, where he would make a name for himself as "Mr. Florida" and later, "Texas Outlaw."

Slater's wrestling career spanned over three decades, with stops in some of the most prominent promotions of his era. He worked for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWF), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), All Japan Pro Wrestling, National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), American Wrestling Association (AWA), and more.

Throughout his career, Slater was known for his technical grappling skills as well as his brawler's mentality. Fans were often left guessing what would happen next when Slater stepped into the ring, making him a fan favorite and a formidable opponent.

Slater's accomplishments in the ring are impressive to say the least. He won numerous titles throughout his career, including the WCW World Tag Team Championship, NWA World Tag Team Championship, USWA Heavyweight Championship, NWA United States Heavyweight Championship, and NWA Television Championship.

Sadly, Slater's life was cut short when he passed away on October 18th, 2018. Despite his untimely departure from this world, Dick Slater's legacy lives on through the countless memories he created for fans around the globe.
