Kevin Kelly
Bloomington, Minnesota - You can take a man out of the ring, but you can't take the ring out of the man. At least, that's what they say about Kevin Kelly, a wrestler-turned-commentator who spent more than two decades in the squared circle before finding his true calling behind the microphone.
Born on April 17th, 1958, Kelly grew up with a passion for wrestling, weighing in at 240 pounds and standing tall at 5'10". He began his career as Kevin Wacholz, adopting various ring names - Nailz, The Convict, The Prisoner - over the years. But no matter what persona he took on, there was always something authentic about Kelly's performances.
After hanging up his wrestling boots, Kelly traded in his singlet for a headset and became a play-by-play commentator. His deep voice and keen eye for detail have made him a beloved fixture of professional wrestling.
"I never thought I'd be doing this," Kelly said, laughing, during an interview at his Bloomington home. "But once I got into it, I knew it was meant to be. There's something special about being part of the action, even if it's just from behind the mic."
Kelly's path to becoming a commentator wasn't without its twists and turns. He spent years honing his craft, working for various promotions before finding his niche as a freelancer.
"It's been an amazing journey," he said, reflecting on his career. "I've seen so many great matches, worked with some incredible people... it's been an honor to be part of this industry."
Kelly's dedication has earned him the respect of fans and fellow wrestlers alike. He may not have started out as a commentator, but he's certainly found his calling - and it shows.
As Kelly would say during one of his signature matches: "It's all about the storytelling, folks." And what a story he has to tell.
