Ron Bass
Deep in the heart of Arizona, a behemoth was born, one that would go on to leave an indelible mark on the world of professional wrestling. Ronald Heard, better known as Outlaw Ron Bass, Cowboy, or simply Big O, stood tall at 6 feet 4 inches and tipped the scales at a whopping 288 pounds.
His wrestling style was as rugged as the terrain he called home – a no-nonsense brawler who wore his heart on his sleeve. With a presence that commanded respect, Bass thundered into the ring, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. His arsenal included two devastating signature moves: the Texas Gordbuster and the Skull Vice.
Bass's journey began in 1973, when he first stepped into the squared circle. Over the years, he would work for some of the most prominent promotions in the industry, including World Wrestling Entertainment, All Japan Pro Wrestling, National Wrestling Alliance, American Wrestling Association, and Deutsche Wrestling Allianz.
A champion in every sense of the word, Bass's impressive résumé boasts a slew of titles won, including the NWA Television Championship, NWA National Championship, NWA International Tag Team Championship, NWA Southern Heavyweight Championship, and NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship. His reigns were marked by a fierce competitiveness, earning him the respect of his peers.
Despite his larger-than-life persona, Bass's greatest battle lay outside the ring. A man of unwavering courage, he faced his final challenge on March 7, 2017, succumbing to a sudden and unexpected medical condition, blinddarmdurchbruch (ruptured femoral artery). His last match took place on February 23, 2013, but his legacy lives on.
Ron Bass's story serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit that drives men like him. A true warrior of the squared circle, he left an enduring mark on the world of professional wrestling, inspiring generations of grapplers to come. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of witnessing his unyielding fury.
