Impact Wrestling: A Solid Show with a Few Speed Bumps
Last night's Impact Wrestling card from the Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit, Michigan, was a mixed bag. While there were some excellent matches and moments, the show wasn't without its issues.
The night started off strong with Ash By Elegance defeating Dani Luna in a solid singles match. Elegance showed flashes of brilliance, using her quickness and agility to outmaneuver Luna. The victory was a great way to kick things off, as it gave us a feel-good story and allowed Elegance to show off her skills.
The first tag team match saw First Class (AJ Francis and KC Navarro) take down The Rascalz (Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz). This one was a bit of a letdown, as both teams have the potential to be great. Unfortunately, this match felt like a series of missteps rather than a cohesive effort. First Class's aggressive style clashed with The Rascalz's high-flying approach, leading to a disjointed and somewhat sloppy performance.
The six-man tag team match featuring Eric Young, Jonathan Gresham, and Steve Maclin against Josh Alexander and The Good Hands (Jason Hotch and John Skyler) was an absolute barnburner. This one had everything: big moves, crazy spots, and even some great storytelling. The heels (Young, Gresham, and Maclin) worked well together, using their cunning and experience to outsmart the faces. Alexander and The Good Hands fought hard, but ultimately came up short.
The main event of El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Trent Seven ended in a no contest after some outside interference from Eric Young, which felt like a cheap way to get rid of what was shaping up to be an excellent match. Both men showed off their impressive skills, with Vikingo's power and Seven's speed making for a compelling contrast.
Lei Ying Lee's victory over Maggie Moore in the women's singles match was another highlight of the night. Lee's submission skills are top-notch, and she effectively used her quickness to evade Moore's attacks. This one had some nice moments and showed that Lee is a force to be reckoned with in the Impact women's division.
The final tag team match saw The System (Eddie Edwards and JDC) defeat Joe Hendry and Nic Nemeth in a well-worked contest. Both teams showed off their chemistry, with The System's experience and teamwork proving too much for the challengers. This one had some great moments, including a thrilling near-fall by Nemeth that nearly stole the show.
Overall, this Impact Wrestling card had its ups and downs. While there were some excellent matches and moments, the show was marred by some issues with timing and pacing. Still, it's hard to complain when you have talented wrestlers like these putting on great shows every week. 3.5 out of 5 stars
