WWF's Monday Night Wars Rival Loses Battle in Baltimore

In front of a packed house at the Baltimore Arena, World Championship Wrestling (WCW) presented its latest pay-per-view extravaganza, and while it may not have been the most star-studded card, there was still plenty to like about this June 13th event.

The evening kicked off with Hak taking on Brian Knobbs in a Hardcore Match. In what can only be described as a wild and woolly affair, these two veterans of the squared circle put everything on the line in a bout that lasted a whopping 5 minutes and 41 seconds. In the end, it was Hak who emerged victorious, his momentum building for the matches to come.

Next up were Van Hammer and Mikey Whipwreck, who clashed in a Singles Match. This one was all about speed and agility, with both competitors showing off their impressive aerial attacks. In the end, it was Van Hammer who came out on top, his victory coming at the 8 minute and 35 second mark.

The action then shifted to the ring, where Buff Bagwell was looking to avenge an earlier loss to Disco Inferno. And while these two may not have been the most technically sound wrestlers, they certainly gave it their all in this 10-minute and 33-second battle. In the end, it was Bagwell who stood tall, his win marking his second straight over the former WCW United States Heavyweight Champion.

The No Limit Soldiers, comprised of Konnan and Rey Mysterio Jr., were next up, taking on The West Texas Rednecks (Bobby Duncum Jr. and Curt Hennig) in a Tag Team Match. This one was all about high-flying action, with both teams trading moves and near falls throughout. In the end, it was the Soldiers who emerged victorious, their win coming at the 10 minute and 44 second mark.

After intermission, The Cat squared off against Horace Hogan in a Singles Match that was all about big moves and fast-paced action. And while these two may not have been the most well-known wrestlers on the card, they certainly gave it their all in this 5-minute and 10-second bout. In the end, it was The Cat who came out on top.

The main event of the evening saw Ric Flair taking on Roddy Piper in a Singles Match that had all the makings of a classic. And while these two legends of the sport may not have been at their best, they still managed to put together a compelling match that lasted 8 minutes and 16 seconds. In the end, it was Flair who emerged victorious.

The penultimate bout saw Rick Steiner take on Sting in a Non-Title Falls Count Anywhere Match. This one was all about chaos and destruction, with both competitors taking their battle outside the ring at every opportunity. And while these two may not have been the most well-known wrestlers on the card, they certainly gave it their all in this 10-minute and 35-second bout. In the end, it was Steiner who emerged victorious.

Finally, The Triad (Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon) put their WCW World Tag Team Titles on the line against Chris Benoit and Perry Saturn. This one was all about technical grappling, with both teams trading holds and near falls throughout. In the end, it was The Triad who emerged victorious, retaining their titles in the process.

And finally, the evening's main event saw Kevin Nash taking on Randy Savage for the WCW World Heavyweight Title. This one was all about big moves and high-stakes drama, with both competitors giving it their all in this 7-minute and 29-second bout. In the end, it was Nash who emerged victorious, his win marking a major upset.

In the end, while this card may not have been the most star-studded, there was still plenty to like about this June 13th event from Baltimore. And with WCW's Monday Night Wars rival WWF (now WWE) dominating the airwaves, it's more important than ever that these upstarts prove they can hang with the big boys.

Final Grade: B+

The Bottom Line: While not every match on this card was a barnburner, there was still plenty to like about this WCW pay-per-view event. With some great performances and a couple of major upsets, this one was definitely worth checking out for fans of the sport.
