ZOHASH.COM EXCLUSIVE: SummerSlam '97 - A Night to Remember

August 3, 1997, Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, New Jersey - The stage was set for the biggest party of the summer, and boy did it deliver! World Wrestling Entertainment's SummerSlam '97 was a card for the ages, featuring some of the most electrifying matches in recent memory.

Match 1: Mankind vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Steel Cage Match)

The main event of the evening kicked off with the " Hardcore Legend" Mankind facing off against the cunning Hunter Hearst Helmsley in a steel cage match. This one had it all - drama, intensity, and more than a few close calls. Mankind's daredevil spirit proved to be the deciding factor, as he took a brutal beating before delivering a thunderous splash from the top of the cage to secure the victory (16:25).

Match 2: Goldust vs. Brian Pillman

Goldust was looking to make a statement in his singles match against the unpredictable Brian Pillman. And boy did he ever! The "Dulce Diesel" brought the heat, using his quickness and cunning to outmaneuver Pillman at every turn. A picture-perfect powerslam sealed the deal for Goldust (7:15).

Match 3: The Legion of Doom vs. The Godwinns

In a match that was equal parts nostalgia trip and high-flying action, The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) took on The Godwinns (Henry O. Godwinn and Phineas I. Godwinn). This one was all about the tag team tradition - lots of brawling, some near-falls, and ultimately, a victory for the LOD via a thunderous Hawk splash (9:51).

Match 4: The British Bulldog vs. Ken Shamrock (WWE European Title Match)

The WWE European Championship was on the line as The British Bulldog clashed with Ken Shamrock. This one was all about intensity and technical grappling - neither man would back down, but in the end, it was the "Bulldog" who emerged victorious, retaining his title via a series of vicious knee drops (7:29).

Match 5: Los Boricuas vs. The Disciples of Apocalypse

In this wild eight-man tag team match, Los Boricuas (Jesus Castillo, Jose Estrada, Miguel Perez, and Savio Vega) took on The Disciples of Apocalypse (8-Ball, Chainz, Crush, and Skull). Chaos reigned supreme as these eight men gave it their all. In the end, it was the Latin-American contingent that emerged victorious, thanks to a crushing Vega powerslam (9:07).

Match 6: Steve Austin vs. Owen Hart (WWE Intercontinental Title Match)

The "Texas Rattlesnake" Steve Austin looked to add another title to his collection as he faced off against Owen Hart for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. This one was all about the hard-hitting, no-nonsense wrestling that fans have come to expect from these two. In the end, it was Austin's patented Stone Cold Stunner that did the trick, securing the win and the title (no time given).

Match 7: Bret Hart vs. The Undertaker (WWE Title Match)

And finally, the main event of the evening: WWE Champion Bret "Hitman" Hart defending his title against the Deadman himself, The Undertaker. This one had it all - drama, suspense, and even a little bit of trickery. In the end, it was Shawn Michaels serving as special referee that made all the difference. Michaels' impartiality (ha!) allowed him to see through Taker's dirty tactics, ultimately leading to Hart retaining his title via a three-count (no time given).

And there you have it - SummerSlam '97: a night that will be remembered for years to come. If you missed it, don't worry; we've got the highlights right here on ZOHASH.COM!
